Seascapes
In July 2024 I spent three days at the Newlyn School of Art for a course in expressive landscapes. We were taken to explore the Pendeen peninsular looking down at rocky headlands, into Boat Cove, and a view from a beacon. From there we could look across at a typical Cornish landscape with a mixture of fields and moorland.
Although my work is still representative, I have been enjoying the seascapes using glazing and layering of textures.
I started with quite small sketches, worked up into finished paintings. Then went onto two A1 sized paintings on cradled board of St Abb's Head, Berwickshire, and Man O'War Bay, Dorset.
While on the art course at Newlyn, I produced a number of small sketches, some of which I worked up in to framed paintings. Here are a few of the sketches -
